Be careful about handing your kids a miserable outlook on a life they haven't even had the chance to live yet.

Be careful about handing your kids a miserable outlook on a life they haven't even had the chance to live yet.

Maybe this is going to ruffle some feathers, but here goes.

If the soundtrack of your home is constantly:

“Ugh, Monday.” “I hate my job.” “School sucks.” “I'm exhausted.” “Everything is so expensive.” “Can't wait for this week to be over.” “Just have to get through today.”

…please remember there are little people listening.

I'm not saying fake happiness. Life IS hard sometimes. Work can suck. School can be hard. Money can be tight. We can have terrible days.

But if we constantly talk about life like it's one long miserable thing we have to survive until the weekend, what exactly are we teaching our kids to look forward to?

Another Monday to dread? Another winter to complain about? Another year to get through?

They're learning how to see life from us.

I want my kid to know that a random Tuesday can be a good day. That getting older is a privilege. That work gives us purpose. That there is beauty in ordinary things. That hard seasons aren't the whole story.

You don't have to pretend life is wonderful every second.

But maybe be careful about handing your kids a miserable outlook on a life they haven't even had the chance to live yet.

Because eventually our voice becomes their inner voice.

And I want mine to say

There is so much good here. Go find it.
